I’ve had this 2TB Desktop Hard-drive from Seagate for a few weeks now and I have to say that it is an improvement over the previous generation of 2TB Seagate external hard-drives. One big difference is that the previous version was only compatible with the new USB 3.0 standard with an optional adapter, which you had to purchase. This new model comes fully compatible with USB 3.0 as well as USB 2.0 without the need for any "adapter". It even uses one port and cable for simplicity. To be honest, I don’t have any USB 3.0 compatible computers yet so I was unable to test the USB 3.0 speeds. I use it in USB 2.0 ports and the speed is that of typical USB 2.0 drives… around 20Mbps average. I think that it’s nice to have a fully compatible USB 3.0 feature to stay updated when you do end up upgrading to a new computer or device which is USB 3.0 compatible. It’s certainly nice to have. Other things I like about this particular external hard-drive is that it seems to be built quite sturdy. It also sits quite solid on a desk top and has the right weight ratio that it’s not easy to tip over. These features were also an improvement over the previous version which had a base that wasn’t quite as balanced. If you’re running Windows 7, this external hard-drive is a breeze to set up because all you need to do is plug it into your computer. I’m guessing that it’s just as easy to set up in XP or Vista because this drive seemed to come nicely pre-formatted. I like this product so much that it is pretty hard to come up with something to complain about. Nothing really comes to mind. I would definitely recommend it to family and friends
